35 Trips – Kano, Dais Boutique

Who is Kano?

Kano is a good friend of both me (Tom) and Nick who we met while in Huddersfield at university. He runs Dais Boutique in Huddersfield – primarily a clothes store specialising in up and coming, independent and contemporary fashion for men as well as lifestyle elements like tea and coffee, grooming as well as film and music. In the past his shop fits have changed regularly, looking amazing each time and really showing through his creative side, from paint splashed walls reminiscent of Jackson Pollock, to a raw wooden feel with strong industrial vibes showing through.

The Byram Arcade is a small victorian building turned into a shopping arcade in Huddersfield that has the most lovely interior, and is filled with small independent businesses including clothes shops, craft shops and jewellers just to name a few; a brilliant place to go to shop when in Huddersfield.

Kano is a keen cyclist, which alongside his creative streak, gave us the idea of letting him be the first person in the 35 Trips series. He took the Trip out to Barcelona when he went with his bike, and shot off a roll of our own branded black & white film on it, which will be back on sale shortly.

You can find Kano’s shop at daisboutique.co.uk or at 14 Westgate, just outside the Byram Arcade, Huddersfield.

What is the 35 Trips project?

Here at west Yorkshire Cameras we fully believe that photography is for everyone, and that the much-loved Trip 35 from Olympus is a fantastic compact for taking about on your travels with you. We have a small selection of Trip 35’s that we like to send out to people with a roll of film for them to shoot; photographers, creatives, people with interesting life styles – anything that could get nice results. We plan on sending these out to 35 different people to send them on 35 trips (pun most definitely intended).

If you think you could get interesting results to help with this project, get in touch with us on our contact page and we will consider you for the project.
